MAIN TRAIL -
Planalto Castro Laboreiro

NAME OF INTEREST - Tumuli of “Lamas de Brincadoiro”

CONCEPT - Cultural Heritage

Following the forest track, one can see two monuments that constitute the Megalithic necropolis of the Castro Laboreiro plateau, called the “Mamoas” (tumuli) of “Lamas de Brincadoiro. These are two Megalithic monuments that, due to their closeness, were considered a single group. The first monument, “Lamas de Brincadoiro 2”, has a sub-circular plan about 20 metres in diameter. Here one can find traces of a stone shield and the pit allows one to notice the existence of a head stone and two other supports in the north side and three more in the south side that constitute the entire Megalithic chamber. The support that covers the chamber was fragmented into three parts. One can also notice traces of the wedge that was used for this. A third of the covering pillar is still lying over the head pillar. The second monument of this group is “Lamas de Brincadoiro 1”, a tumulus of circular plan with approximately 24 metres diameter, that has the trace of a stone shield and a depression in the centre. There are no visible pillars.
