MAIN TRAIL -
Percurso da Serra Amarela

NAME OF INTEREST - Quartz vein

CONCEPT - Geological Heritage

Quartz veins or veinlets intruded into the Gerês Granite are frequently found in the Serra do Gerês massif. These magmatic bodies, through installing themselves into faults and fissures, tend have a tabular shape of greatly varying dimensions (veinlets may be just millimetres or centimetres thick, whilst veins might be many metres) and orientation. They may be made up of a single body or be in the form of a stockwork, such as is seen at this location.
