At this point we meet an ancient track which linked the village of Vilarinho da Furna with the uplands of the Serra Amarela. From the old village of Vilarinho (today submerged by the reservoir) to the highest point of this granite paved track there is a height gain of about 400 metres. It was constructed out of granite paving slabs, is about 2 kilometres long and has a maximum width of one and a half metres. Building this track clearly involved a huge effort and determination on the part of the men of Vilarinho, undoubtedly helped by the communal system that operated in the village.
