MAIN TRAIL -
Percurso da Serra Amarela

NAME OF INTEREST - Holly copse

CONCEPT - Natural Heritage

At this point we are close to a holly copse (habitat 9380 – Ilex aquifolium woodland). This habitat is particularly common near to the sources of streams on the Serra Amarela, being afterwards gradually substituted by birch and oak woods, where the flow of the river is more reduced.
In this way, as can be seen at this location, the holly copse is made up of just one or two strings of trees alongside the watercourses, beyond which they are surrounded by broom thickets. These two communities do not support a high level of biodiversity but it is always possible to find fauna and flora typical of oak and waterside birch woods here.
