Around Porto Chão various vestiges of the different periods of occupation of this area can be found. The most evident is the one known as Povoado de Porto Chão, a mountain settlement, possibly medieval, where it is possible to see the ruins of various square and rectangular shaped houses, having walls constructed with drystone granite blocks and surrounded by a type of low wall (today in ruins).
As well as the settlement, this area also has examples of rock engravings (concentric circles and indentations, possibly from the Bronze Age) as well as pre-historic tumuli.
