MAIN TRAIL -
Percurso Pé de Cabril

NAME OF INTEREST - Prado Amarelo (meadow)

CONCEPT - Natural Heritage

Natural or semi-natural mountain pastures develop in relatively level, poorly drained areas, usually surrounded by steep hillsides. The herbaceous vegetation, dominated by grasses or shrubs found in these pastures, provide grazing for livestock (cattle, horses and ruminants). Traditionally these areas, found at relatively high altitudes, are grazed during the months of May to September/October. One of the threats to such areas is the occurrence of fire which leads to a loss of food, shelter and breeding conditions for fauna. Another threat lies in the abandonment of grazing in these areas which results in the substitution of natural and semi-natural pasture by dry scrub.
