MAIN TRAIL -
Percurso Pé de Cabril

NAME OF INTEREST - Pé de Cabril (granite landforms)

CONCEPT - Geological Heritage

Pé de Cabril is the landform that gave this route its name, at its summit reaching 1236 metres. It is one of the largest granite landforms that can be found in this region. Called a Castle Koppie or bornhardt it is characterised by its abrupt castellated form, made up of geometric blocks that are separated by rectangular network of fractures.
We can also see alongside the path other, smaller scale, granite landforms – tors (distinguished from bornhardts by their smaller dimension) and pans (cavities formed in rocks through preferential retention of water in irregularities within the rock and which are subsequently subjected to erosion).
