NAME OF INTEREST - Brushwood glade

CONCEPT - Natural Heritage

In the mountain range of PNPG, the meadows located at great height are frequently used by bovine and equine (“garranos”) livestock, keeping it clear from brushwood, through grazing and also through controlled fires. Besides cattle, many other animals use these glades as a source of food, namely the boar (Sus scrofa) – that leaves many traces of its presence, when rummaging the soil looking for roots, bulbs or plant tubers – the rabbit (Orictolagus cuniculus), Lusitanian pine vole (Microtus lusitanicus), partridge (Alectoris rufa), meadow pipit (Anthus pratensis) and the stonechat (Saxicola torquata).
The meadows, according to the type of soil and its level of humidity can have vegetation typical of water-meadows (habitat 6510), mat grass areas (priority habitat 6230), acidophile creeper undergrowth), and thyme areas (8230pt1). On this meadow one can see the grasses that are typical of the first two types of habitat.
