NAME OF INTEREST - Zoomorphic shape granite – “Hanging” dog

CONCEPT - Geological Heritage

Ahead, one can see a curious granitic shape. It reminds us of a dog’s head. This is probably the reason why this place is known as the “hanging dog”.
It is a zoomorphic granite block, its shape has resulted from the erosion due to several weathering agents (water, ice, wind and biological agents).
Shapes of this kind can be found all over the National Park. Nearby, there are some of the more well-known: the turtle (next to the castle at Castro Laboreiro) and the lizard (in “Portela do Lagarto”, between Lamas de Mouro and Gavieira).
