CONCEPT - Natural Heritage


This is a habitat where one can mainly find the cross-leaved heath (Erica tetralix) and the dwarf gorse (Ulex minor), with or without “lameirinha” (E. ciliaris). The ling (Calluna vulgaris) and species of the genus Genista can also be found. This is an important habitat for the balance of the water cycle, also working as a refuge for biodiversity (rare vascular plants Gentiana pneumonanthe and rare Lycaenidae- gossamer-winged butterflies- e.g. Maculinea alcon.
There can also be seen insectivorous species such as the common sundew (Drosera rotundifolia) and the butterwort (Pinguicula lusitanica). Concerning fauna one can see several bird species and also amphibia, such as the Iberian newt (Triturus boscai), marbled newt (Triturus marmoratus), Iberian frog (Rana iberica) and the European tree frog (Hyla arborea).
