NAME OF INTEREST - Humid heather-gorse areas 2

CONCEPT - Natural Heritage

At this point there is a very small patch of heather-gorse area (4030pt2), part of the mild Atlantic heath habitat. This is a priority conservation habitat, as, in the European Union, it is considered rare, due to the frequent draining to which it has been subjected to. The most common species are “lameirinha” (Erica ciliaris) and the dwarf gorse (Ulex minor). This patch, being very small, probably isn’t large enough to possess the typical fauna of wet areas. Otherwise, one would find mainly amphibia, such as species of salamanders, newts and frogs.
