MAIN TRAIL -
Percurso dos Prados da Messe

NAME OF INTEREST - Chã - flattened area

CONCEPT - Geological Heritage

This flat area which goes by the name of Lomba do Pau, has resulted from the continual deposition of sediments that have come from weathering, through geological time, of the surrounding granite outcrops. This continual accumulation of sediments coming from the surrounding hillsides and transported by steady or torrential water flows has allowed the development of some soil, rich in organic matter and peat. The depth and humidity of the soil allows the development of pasture to feed the animals.
