NAME OF INTEREST - English Yew wood

CONCEPT - Natural Heritage

English Yew or Taxus baccata woods (9580) are normally found on the margins of mountain watercourses, in enclosed valleys. They are woodlands dominated by the English Yew (Taxus baccata) and holly (Ilex aquifolium). They are also associated with oak and birch woods. English Yew woods are extremely rare in Portugal. Their cutting down and fires are the principal risks they face.
