The Bostochão ‘branda’ is similar to all the others encountered on this walk. Its byres and cattle pens are of similar construction and function as those previously seen. This ‘branda’ was used by the shepherds of Carralcova, however, nearby are also to be found some byres belonging to the inhabitants of Lombadinha. Each shepherd, with his animals, would climb up to these hilltop ‘brandas’ in the warmer weather to find the surrounding cooler summer pastures for grazing. The same shepherds might stay in more than one ‘branda’ depending on the grazing available or the number of animals in his care.
