MAIN TRAIL -
Percurso do Vale da Teixeira

NAME OF INTEREST - Heather-Gorse area 3

CONCEPT - Natural Heritage

We have already had the opportunity to see that heather-gorse areas are low scrub areas, dominated by ling (Erica umbellata), red heather (E. australis), prickled broom (Pterospartum tridentatum) or dwarf gorse (Ulex minor). This habitat is usually associated with an abundance of acidic rocks, high levels of precipitation and to the changes caused by flash fires. It is a habitat rich in various fauna species, due to the availability of open areas that are used for feeding.
