MAIN TRAIL -
Percurso do Vale da Teixeira

NAME OF INTEREST - View over “vale da Teixeira” (Teixeira Valley)

CONCEPT - Landscape Interest

This is a compulsory stopping point, to admire the superb valley of Teixeira. From here one can see the corral of Teixeira and, a bit further down the corral of Camalhão. The first one can be reached quickly, after going down the slope and crossing the River Teixeira.
But beforehand, one should enjoy this particularly privileged view point. The sharp and irregular mountains of Gerês take on a huge scale from here. One can see from here Borrageiro, one of the highest points of the Gerês mountain range (1430m), easily identified by the transmission antennae that have been installed there.
From a more romantic viewpoint, but one that was very real in the past, one can imagine this valley, during the warmest months of the year, with some hundreds of head of cattle, where the silence of the mountain was interrupted by the sounds of the animals’ bells and by the horns that the shepherds (“Vezeiros”) would use to gather them in (“vezeira”).
Nowadays, grazing of pasture still takes place around these corrals, but the number of heads of cattle is little more than fifty.
From here we descend to walk through the length of the valley and then continue up to the “portela” (pass) of “Chã da Presa”, which can already be seen from here, and then onwards from there until we reach “Leonte”.
