Castro Laboreiro Route

The Castro Laboreiro Plateau Route starts at the forestry dirt track, situated on the right, just before the “branda” (temporary summer village) of Portos (following in the direction of Castro Laboreiro – Padrouso – Portos), ending in “Branda de Rodeiro”. This route is about 15 kms long, and follows along a cart track the whole way. This track provides good conditions for following the route by bicycle. We recommend that you allow about 8 hours to walk the entire route and appreciate the points of interest described here. By bicycle this route should take only about 4 hours.
We have identified and described 19 points of interest along the route, related to the natural, cultural or geological heritage of each point. However, Castro Laboreiro’s plateau is known especially for its archaeological heritage from the Megalithic period.
This route is graded as being of medium difficulty, due to its length. Sources of drinking water along the route cannot be guaranteed (water springs and fountains are seasonal).
