Serra Amarela Route
 |
The Serra Amarela Route starts at the Park Gateway in Lindoso Castle and ends alongside the Vilarinho das Furnas Reservoir. The whole route passes through the Serra Amarela, following a trail for about 16 kms, being uphill from Lindoso to Porta do Colado after which, already on the other side of the mountains, it leads, sometimes steeply, downhill to the waters of the Rio Homem following a track formerly constructed by the inhabitants of the now drowned village of Vilarinho das Furnas.
The ground conditions found on this route mean it can only be followed on foot. You are recommended to allow 9 hours to complete the whole route and allowing for time to appreciate the points of interest that are described (35 such points have been identified and described, these being related to natural, cultural, geological and scenic features of the area). The route is graded ‘Difficult’ and as such is recommended only for people who are physically fit and experienced walkers. Sources of drinking water along the route cannot be guaranteed (water springs and fountains are seasonal).
